From tea-time to Me-time, five ways to steal me time during lockdown.

Posted on July 03 2020

Hello, this is me…surviving “97 days” of the lockdown. The lockdown experience to date has been kind and insightful.  More than ever, I realized the importance of “Me time”. The extended time I got to spend with myself has led me to discover a whole new “me”. As an extrovert, I miss meeting people, I miss traveling, and I miss a life that I was enjoying. But suddenly I feel far more grateful for all that I have. The lockdown has taught me to embrace my imperfections.

There’s been another remarkable realization - my mental health depends on my emotions, my thoughts, and discipline rather than other people or situations. Lockdown routine has kept me busier than my usual days. Household chores, office work, family time, and to be LOCKED DOWN in home, it

I have managed to survive this so far by investing my some tiny bits of time every day in things I enjoy doing. There are several reasons to get upset on the little things. And there are an equal number of reasons to find happiness in little things…the choice is ours! I choose to steal “me time” and do things that help me create and nurture my best self.

I have learned to find beauty in tiny 10-minute breaks of quiet time that fill me with joy.

  • Tea for every ME!

I have always been a coffee person but during the lockdown I have picked up a liking for tea ;). Tea has been a great companion in the me-moments. I love sipping organic flavored tea in my favorite Stallion Mug. The quiet ritual offers me time to sit back and feel calm. I have noticed a change in the mood swings I used to experience during the early days of lockdown.

  • Quarantine Workout

Physical fitness is not just crucial for a healthy body but also for our overall well being. Home workouts have helped me stay motivated and disciplined. A quick 20 mins sessions of home workout is a sure shot self-care ritual that has helped bring my mind, body and soul all in one place.

  • Lockdown encouraged READING.

Until now, watching movies was my most preferred pastime. But, lockdown has taught me to find happiness in the company of BOOKS. Yes, lockdown encouraged me to read books, stories, and articles. I thoroughly enjoy this quiet “Me-time” with a cup of black coffee immersing into the imaginative world of words.

  • Learning the Value of being Self-Dependent from Household Chores.

Lockdown has been a learning curve for all men and women. People have got time to pause and notice how beautifully a home can be managed even without the house help. This understanding has created a higher sense of respect towards each other’s duties and made relationships stronger. Share the love, share the load! In these tough times, the approach towards life has changed for good and that’s evident with terms such as Pocchha Workout, Mop and Dance, FamJam Friyays among others.

  • Explored my Hidden Talent…!

Am that person who loves to binge twice a week on Fast food. It's been a task to control the craving for outside food. But, “Where there is a will there's a way.” Usually, I never cooked that often but this temptation has helped me explore the Hidden talent of Cooking! In these 97 days, I must have tried at least 30 different dishes that include Fast food, Continental, Italian, Chinese, Indian, Street food, you name it. Some of the dishes were scrumptious, few were just about okay but thankfully nothing was bad.

Trying quick dishes in my “Me-time” besides bringing happiness taught me - Don’t fear to try anything new, you never know how it can do wonders!

The days are tough indeed, but we are tougher if we decide to keep your spirits high and make the most of every little moment at hand. Gift yourself some Me-time. I promise you will relish it every bit.
